Practical HOP support, from a single conversation to a long-term embedded partnership.

Human and Organisational Performance

WHAT IS HOP

HOP is a way of thinking about how work actually gets done.

Rather than explaining outcomes through individual error or non-compliance, Human and Organisational Performance asks a different question: what were the conditions that made this outcome likely? It is a curious, humble approach - focused on understanding the gap between how work is designed and how it is actually done in practice.

In high-risk environments - construction, energy, manufacturing, EHS - HOP is increasingly recognised as the foundation of a genuine safety and learning culture. But the principles apply anywhere that people, systems and pressure meet.

FROM HOP TO HPMA

Understanding HOP is one thing. Applying it consistently is another.

Many organisations understand the principles of HOP but struggle to translate them into everyday leadership practice, particularly under pressure.

Human Performance for Meaningful Action, HPMA, is our approach to bridging that gap.

What Is HPMA?

HPMA (Human Performance for Meaningful Action) is our practical learning and capability-building programme for organisations looking to apply Human and Organisational Performance in everyday work.

While HOP provides the principles, HPMA provides the pathway. It combines learning, coaching, practical application and organisational support to help leaders, supervisors and teams translate HOP concepts into meaningful action.

Whether through workshops, leadership development, e-learning, facilitated learning teams, coaching, or embedded support, HPMA is designed to build the internal capability needed to sustain learning and improvement long after external support has stepped away.

Rather than teaching HOP as a set of principles, HPMA translates each principle into practical leadership tools and ways of working that can be sustained internally. Impact is measured against the organisation's real problem statement and cultural journey, not just training completion.

THE CHALLENGE

  • Teams understand the concepts but struggle to apply them consistently in operational settings.

  • Leaders want to support learning and improvement but are often unsure what this looks like in day-to-day conversations and decisions.

  • Training creates awareness, but awareness alone rarely changes behaviours, habits, or organisational systems.

  • HOP initiatives often lose momentum because there is no clear pathway from understanding the principles to embedding them into the way work is managed and led.

  • Without meaningful measures of progress, it can be difficult to understand what is changing, what is working, and where to focus next.

Many organisations have been introduced to HOP principles, but translating those principles into everyday practice can be difficult.

How we can help

We meet you where you are

There is no single right way to work with us on HOP and HPMA. Some organisations are just beginning to explore what it means for them. Others have a programme underway that has lost momentum. Others are ready for a sustained, embedded partnership. We work across all of these, shaped around your context, your priorities, and your pace.

A starting conversation

If you are new to HOP or exploring whether it is right for your organisation, we offer scoping conversations and diagnostic sessions to help you understand the landscape, assess your current position, and work out where to focus first. No commitment required beyond the conversation.

Embedded partnership

For organisations ready to commit to a sustained HOP journey, we embed a senior HOP partner into your organisation on a secondment basis, typically one day per week. They work alongside your team, building internal capability, keeping strategy on track, and evolving their support as your programme matures.

Project-based support

For a defined piece of work with a clear start and end point, a training programme, a series of facilitated sessions, a learning review process, or a specific site rollout, we design and deliver to your brief. This is HOP support on your terms, scoped to what you actually need right now.

THE EMBEDDED MODEL IN MORE DETAIL

For those ready for a longer-term commitment, the engagement evolves across three phases.

Strategy & Foundation

Define the roadmap, align leadership and establish the conditions for a successful rollout. Build internal confidence and momentum.

Delivery & Embedding

Learning experiences, facilitated discussions, coaching and practical application are delivered through a blend of internal and external support. The HOP lead helps maintain direction, build capability and ensure learning translates into everyday work.

Measurement & Maturity

Data capture, impact reporting, and ROI evidence. The HOP lead shifts to monthly strategic oversight as the programme matures.

Typical embedded engagement: 1 day per week  18 to 36 months  Specialist support on demand

What this gives you

Strategic continuity

A named expert who knows your organisation, your people, and your programme.

Internal capability built in

HOP becomes owned internally, not dependent on external support.

Proven return on investment

Structured impact measurement that captures progress and justifies continued investment.
